Civic Leader Education and Advocacy Program (CLEAP) participants put their freshly polished advocacy skills to work on Wednesday, meeting with dignitaries at the Cámara de Diputados and Senado de la República to discuss issues impacting both the United States and Mexico.Â
Wednesday, April 9 recap:
Following a day of issue education and advocacy preparation, CLEAP 2025 participants headed to the halls of Mexico’s Congreso de la Unión to gain a better understanding of how the federal legislative system works before meeting with elected officials. After touring the Cámara de Diputados, the group sat down for a working session with Congresswoman Maribel Solache González to discuss relevant issues of the day.
Later that afternoon, the group made its way to the Senado de la República for a tour of the chamber before engaging in a working session with Senator Karina Isabel Ruiz. Both Congresswoman Solache González and Senator Ruiz serve as federal legislators who live in the U.S. and represent Mexicans living abroad in Mexico in the federal Congress.
